Radiographical and Damage Mode Analyses of Retrieved Agility Total Ankle Arthroplasty Systems

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: The AGILITY (DePuy, Warsaw, IN) total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) system was introduced in response to the high failure rates associated with the first generation of total ankle arthroplasty. First generation failures were generally attributed to increased loads across cement-bone interface, increased bone resection and poor surgical technique. Advancements in product design have increased the implantation life of the device; however, chronic loosening of the implant’s components is attributed as the primary clinical reason for failure of the AGILITY (DePuy, Warsaw, IN) system. Chronic loosening of components attributed to high contact stresses in the ankle and implantation technique. This study connects clinical failure modes and radiographical analyses to macro and microscopic evaluation of each retrieved component (tibial, talar and polyethylene insert) of 10 AGILITY (DePuy, Warsaw, IN) TAA systems.

Malleolar fracture after total ankle arthroplasty: a comparison of two designs.
There has been a resurgence in the treatment of end-stage tibiotalar arthritis with prosthetic replacement. This procedure has highlighted numerous complications including malleolar fracture. We wanted to determine the clinical relevance of malleolar fracture with the two most commonly used implants in the United States. We retrospectively compared the first 20 STAR with the first 25 Agility to...
متن کاملAccurate measurement of ankle range of motion after total ankle arthroplasty.
There is no standardized method reported in the literature to measure ROM of the ankle after a total ankle arthroplasty, which limits the possibility to compare results from the various ankle designs. It seems that most of the measurements are a combination of ankle and midfoot motion, not the tibiotalar joint. A protocol was developed to accurately measure the true tibiotalar and midfoot motio...
متن کاملComparison of Clinical, Functional, and Radiological Outcomes of Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Conventional and Patient-Specific Instrumentation
Background: Recently, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) systems have been developed in order to increase theaccuracy of component positioning during total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, the findings of previous studies arecontroversial in this regard. In the current randomized clinical study, the outcomes of computer tomography (CT)-basedPS (patient specific)-guided TK...
متن کاملFretting and Corrosion in Modular Shoulder Arthroplasty: A Retrieval Analysis
Tribocorrosion in taper junctions of retrieved anatomic shoulder arthroplasty implants was evaluated. A comparison of the tribocorrosion between cobalt-chromium and titanium alloy stems was conducted and the observations were correlated with the individual's clinical data. Adverse effects caused by metal debris and subsequent elevated serum metal ion levels are frequently reported in total hip ...
متن کاملObservations on retrieved humeral polyethylene components from reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.
HYPOTHESIS Analyses of polyethylene components retrieved at revision of total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements have been used to study the effect of design, patient, and surgical factors on initial implant performance, but no studies have reported similar types of findings in retrieved humeral polyethylene components in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. Our hypothesis is that while the c...
